Most political parties talk about getting tougher on crime and yet fail to address the fundamental underlying problem of the UK justice system.

Currently, all our jails are FULL!

SmarterUK would increase jail capacity by 30% so that we can immediately stop the ingrained process of releasing prisoners 50% of the way through their sentences not because of good behaviour but because we need to free up space.

Prisons should serve as both a deterrent and a platform for social reform and retraining in meaningful work skills, a vision that can only be realised with an expanded prison capacity.
